MARCO FRANCHINA
Born in Italy and raised in Southern California. From the age of 21, Marco has shot in every corner of the world. His early career started as a fashion photographer, working with some of the largest fashion magazines. Marco’s work has been published in The Los Angeles Times Magazine, The New York Times Magazine, Rolling Stone, Australian Vogue, Spanish Vogue, Italian Vogue, J-Crew, Macy's, and Andy Warhol's Interview Magazine, where he was commissioned to photograph many notable celebrities. During this period, he grew his appreciation for art, fine art, lifestyle and architectural photography. His fine art photography and art have been featured in galleries and art shows throughout the U.S.
Growing up in L.A. during the 70s and 80s, he was heavily influenced by what he saw from the car— larger-than-life billboards and bright colors shining in the California sun. He has been continuously fascinated by movies that combine his love of photography, graphics, typography, and pop culture with Hollywood’s iconic imagery. His mixed media works on wood and canvas utilize his photography, vintage movie posters, digital imagery, transforming oil paint, acrylics, watercolor, as well as pen and ink. Impulse also plays an inspiring factor into his creative choices, randomly tearing his art creations, which results in an edgy, dark, romantic, and sometimes whimsical take on film history. All of which is attributed to deconstructing found imagery.
