Joan Baez
In her history-making career as an international performer and activist, Joan Baez has been on the front lines of just about every nonviolent social justice and human rights movement of the past century. She walked arm-in-arm with Martin Luther King Jr. on civil rights marches in Mississippi, got thrown in jail for protesting the War in Vietnam, and conspired with Vaclav Havel to spark the Velvet Revolution.
Since she retired from active performing, Joan has been able to focus her talents in the visual arts on painting and drawing, creating art with a social conscience. She has also created a series of portraits of musical icons, which were part of MAD.KAT's Sound & Vision exhibition in March 2024. Among those displayed in the exhibit were paintings of Keith Richards, Ron Wood, Jack White, Lana Del Rey, and more.
