CHERYL BENTYNE
Cheryl Bentyne is an artist who expresses herself in various fields. She has spent 44 years as a member of the 10-time Grammy-winning vocal group, The Manhattan Transfer.
Music has always been her centerpiece. So the idea of creating another form of art was stretching out her expression into a new direction: a new chapter, taking a chance. That is art.
While traveling the world her inspiration varied from international music to great art to opera and, of course, to flea markets. From Japan to Istanbul to Finland to Spain… art was everywhere in her travels.
A collector of American pottery, Cheryl has an eye for shapes, colors, form and function, which led her to the light! With an inspired brushstroke and a palette of strange and unique tools, she creates lampshades that set a mood.
Whether the sultry allure of a Miles Davis solo or the playful charm of a Gershwin prelude, creating her art is improvisational, and not unlike a sort of scat chorus sung to a jazz standard! A lamp can not only give light, but can set the stage in the boudoir, be a means by which a good book can be enjoyed, or be a centerpiece in the great room, making it even greater!
